Position Overview
Thomas Adewumi University is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Bursary Department to oversee the Business Ventures of the University operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, effective internal control, and sound financial management practices to support the University’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws and other statutory financial obligations.
Support budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis.
Implement strong internal controls, risk management, and financial policies.
Provide financial insights to management for decision-making.
Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and financial institutions.
Mentor and supervise junior accountants and accounting staff.
Contribute to process improvements and adoption of digital financial systems.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or MBA is an added advantage).
Professional accounting qualification: ICAN, ACCA, or ANAN (mandatory).
Minimum of 7 years progressive accounting experience, at least 3 years in a supervisory role (preferably in higher education or non-profit sector).
Strong knowledge of IFRS, IPSAS, and Nigerian financial regulations.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., XERO, Sage, QuickBooks, or ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel.
High ethical standards, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
Salary & Benefits
Salary Range: ₦550,000 – ₦800,000 per month (depending on qualifications and experience).
