Role Summary:
The Finance Director position at PVNL will be a senior leadership role and will be part of the senior management team (SMT). The Finance Director will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organization and ensuring the financial health and sustainability of PVNL. The Finance Director will lead the PVNL’s finance team, provide strategic financial guidance, and support the organization’s mission through effective financial planning, management, regulatory compliance and reporting. This role will require high level of professionalism and integrity, a strong leadership and team management skills with extensive experience in grant management in the NGO/Nonprofit sector, strategic thinking, and a commitment to the organization’s values and goals. The Finance Director will be reporting to the CEO/Executive Director with frequent interface with the organization’s board of directors.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy and Planning
The Finance Director will be responsible for developing and implementing financial strategic plans to support PVNL’s mission and long-term goals through collaborating with senior management to align financial plans with the organizational strategic objectives.
Oversee PVNL’s financial planning, annual budgeting, forecasting processes, and financial modeling activities to support strategic decision-making in all organizational business areas.
Lead all financial monitoring and risk management through analyzing financial data and metrics to identify opportunities, risks, and specific areas for PVNL business improvement.
Collaborate with the program and operation teams to support PVNL’s financial planning for new initiatives and business opportunities.
Financial Management and Reporting
Lead the management of all organizational daily financial operations, coordinate cash flow from all business components, investments, and funding lines to ensure a strong organizational financial health at all times.
Lead all PVNL’s financial reporting activities and serve as liaison contact with all PVNL’s donor partners to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to donors and the Board of Directors.
Responsible for implementing a robust financial controls to safeguard organization’s assets and monitor PVNL’s overall financial performance with regular updates and recommendations provided to the senior management.
Manage budget performance, providing variance analysis, develop corrective action plans and optimize resource allocation to maximize impact and efficiency.
Provide technical support on procurement activities and collaborate with program and the operations teams to integrate financial planning and management across the organization.
Compliance and Risk Management:
The Finance Director will oversee the implementation of appropriate internal control systems and procedures to ensure compliance with all financial regulations, standards, external audit requirements and best practices.
Oversee the preparation and submission of financial audits, tax returns, and other statutory requirements in accordance to PVNL’s policy provisions.
Develop and implement a robust risk management policy and procedures to protect the PVNL’s financial integrity.
Team Leadership and Management:
Lead and mentor the PVNL’s finance team across the different states, fostering a culture of professionalism, excellence and continuous improvement.
Oversee recruitment, training, performance management, and succession planning for the PVNL’s finance department.
Drive organizational capacity building in financial management systems for the finance team and provide professional development opportunities and technical support for overall performance improvement.
Promote collaboration and effective communication within the finance team and across all other departments within the organization (especially programs).
Strategic Leadership, Stakeholder Management and Fundraising
The Finance Director will be member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) and will participate in strategic leadership convening’s to provide financial insights to inform strategic decision-making.
He /She will support all PVNL’s fundraising efforts through providing budgetary development guidance, financial analysis, and data-driven insights to strengthen grant proposals and other fundraising initiatives.
Coordinate and ensure the management of strong relationships with donors, project implementation partners, financial institutions and ensuring transparent and accurate financial reporting at all times.
Engage with key stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, donors, partners, and other regulatory bodies.
Represent and drive PVNL’s mission and interest in financial matters at external meetings, conferences, and events.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors on financial matters.
Desired Qualification Skills and Experience.
The Desired candidate must possess
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; A Master's degree or professional certification (ACA, ICAN, CPA) is preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial systems management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role preferably in a Non-profit/development organizations or Agribusiness industry.
High proficiency in financial management software, tools and ERP systems (such as QuickBooks, Sage etc.).
Experienced in donor grant management and finance systems for donor organizations e.g. USAID, EU, FCDO, AGRA etc.
In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations compliance, financial risk management and best practices.
Must possess exceptional analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills preferably for an agribusiness set up.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, capable of effectively engaging with executive leadership and high profile partnerships.
Strong leadership abilities with experience building and managing high-performing teams.
