Job Summary
The Heavy Duty mechanic contributes to the efficient operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, ensuring that projects are completed safely and on schedule. He will also play a pivotal role in ensuring the proper maintenance and functioning of construction equipment and vehicles.
Skills and Competency Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Certification or diploma in Heavy Duty Mechanic program preferred.
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience working as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, preferably in the construction industry.
Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, as well as using tools and equipment common to heavy equipment maintenance.
Proficiency in Volvo, Bomack, Caterpilla and other heavy duty equipment
Understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems. Familiarity with construction machinery models and manufacturers.
Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various weather conditions, and stand for extended periods.
Ability to conduct thorough inspections and follow procedures accurately.
Effective communication with team members, supervisors, and vendors.
Knowledge of safety regulations and practices.
Proficiency in computer software for documentation and reporting and diagnostic machines to diagnose faults in equipment.
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as replacing fluids, filters, and belts, as well as diagnosing and repair mechanical issues on heavy construction equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, cranes, and trucks.
Identify problems with machinery through observation and diagnostic tools, and develop solutions to ensure equipment is operational and safe.
Order and manage inventory of replacement parts, ensuring availability for repairs and maintenance tasks.
Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance tasks, and parts usage for reporting and reference.
Coordinate with other mechanics and construction personnel to ensure efficient operation of equipment and timely completion of projects.
Stay up-to-date on industry advancements and participate in training to enhance skills and knowledge.
