Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Gardener to join our Facilities Management team at RHV. The Gardener will be responsible for maintaining the hospital's gardens and outdoor spaces, including planting, grooming flowers, shrubs, and trees, as well as creating and maintaining a nursery for plant propagation. The ideal candidate will have a green thumb, a keen eye for detail, and a love for working outdoors.

Key Responsibilities

Plant, cultivate, and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees, and other plants in the hospital gardens and outdoor areas.
Plan and design garden layouts, including selecting appropriate plant species and arranging them aesthetically.
Monitor plant health and growth, and implement appropriate watering, fertilizing, and pest control measures as needed.
Prune, trim, and groom plants to maintain their shape, health, and appearance.
Create and maintain a nursery for plant propagation, including sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings, and caring for young plants.
Weed, mulch, and cultivate garden beds to keep them tidy and free of pests and diseases.
Perform regular maintenance tasks such as mowing lawns, edging borders, and cleaning garden equipment and tools.
Collaborate with other departments, such as Environmental Services and Facilities Management, to ensure that garden maintenance activities align with overall hospital operations.
Uphold safety standards and protocols while working in outdoor environments, including proper use of tools and equipment and adherence to health and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

Interested candidates should possess relevant qualifications with 1 - 10 years work experience.
Proven experience in gardening, landscaping, or horticulture, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
Knowledge of plant species, cultivation techniques, and garden design principles.
Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
Excellent attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Certification or training in horticulture or landscaping is an asset.
