Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Support in sensitizing the shipping department (office staff and crew) to ensure compliance of the safety management system (SMS).
Suggest to the DPA possible improvements/modifications of the MS.
Comply with the IMS procedures and requirements and demonstrate your commitment to safety and environmental excellence.
Ensure the safe and environmentally sound operation of the fleet by providing guidance on relevant standards.
Motivate vessels’ personnel for continuous improvement and encourage enhancement of performance.
Perform internal office and vessels compliance audit periodically.
Participate in the emergency response team during emergencies on the vessels.
Assist in coordinating incidents, accidents, injuries, near misses’ investigations, analyzing results and producing annual statistics as per OCIMF guidelines.
Ensure cooperation with the Technical Department regarding vessels’ requirements in relation with safety and environmental performance and improvements.
Support in coordinating planned and emergency drills/ unannounced drug and alcohol test for the crew onboard.
Keep abreast with the Statutory and Class regulations and standards.
Analyze the results of assigned vessels’ inspections and follow-up on all reports of vessels’ condition and performance.
Conduct periodic safety and quality inspections and audits on the company’s ships.
Periodically provide reports of activities done.

Requirements
REQUIREMENT AND EXPERIENCE
Shipping Academy graduate, recognized by National Authorities or a degree from an Institution of higher education.
Minimum of 2 years work experience on a similar role
A HSE certification is an added advantage e.g NEBOSH, OSHA, etc.
SKILLS
Good analytical and organizational skills
Good knowledge of international shipping standards e.g MARPOL, ISPS, MLC, ISM etc
Knowledge of the shipping industry
Ability to pay attention to detail
Ability to work for extended hours when required
Possess good communication skills (oral and written)
Proficient with Microsoft office suite
