Job Description
The General Manager (GM) will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all farm activities, ensuring optimal productivity, profitability, and sustainability.
The GM will lead cross-functional teams across crop production, livestock, agronomy, logistics, and processing while driving innovation and continuous improvement across the value chain.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute short and long-term strategic plans for farm operations and expansion.
Oversee daily operations, including Cassava cultivation, irrigation systems, equipment, and labor.
Lead and supervise department heads across production, Finance, People, Talent, Procurement, and Logistics.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, health, safety, and environmental standards.
Develop and manage budgets, cost control systems, and P&L accountability.
Implement sustainable farming techniques and modern agricultural technologies (e.g., precision farming, mechanization).
Collaborate with R&D teams to improve yields and develop high-value crops.
Build strategic partnerships with suppliers, off-takers, government agencies, and investors.
Foster a performance-driven culture and mentor mid-level managers and field staff.
Report progress to the CEO and board on KPIs, risks, and new business opportunities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in commercial agriculture, including 5+ years in a general management or operations director role.
Proven track record in managing large-scale farm operations (ideally >500 hectares).
Strong business acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
Knowledge of modern farming practices, supply chain systems, and ag-tech.
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, result-oriented, and culturally diverse environment.
Familiarity with Nigerian and West African agricultural policies, climates, and challenges.
